Study report of: The Temperature reduction due to the use of Redpath Coolshade™
Tested Products: Redpath Coolshade™ and clean glass.
Description of the experiment:
A miniature
greenhouse was constructed. In this greenhouse an electric thermometer was
placed. The greenhouse was treated with the product. Starting at “time=0”
the greenhouse was heated by a source of short infrared radiation between
800 and 2000 nanometre. These radiations are commonly assumed as responsible
for the heating. The temperature is measured in degrees Celsius as a function
of the time.
Experimental Conclusions:
A large temperature reduction (about 6 degrees) is shown with a dilution of 1 part Redpath Coolshade™ + 8 parts of water. Corresponding with a shading percentage of about 50%.
An even larger temperature reduction was shown with a dilution pf 1 part of Redpath Coolshade™ + 3 parts of water. An additional temperature reduction of over 1 degree at the end of the experiment was established, what is substantial. The shading percentage was 80%.
So Redpath Coolshade™ fulfils all his functions completely: A large temperature reduction and a variable shading percentage for the different cultivations.
Report of the study
Objective
Determination of the characteristics of the biodegradability of the product REDPATH COOLSHADE™ mixed with a referenced agricultural earth under controlled temperature and humidity.
Material and method (according to the project standard NF XPU 44-163)
The earth (Reference AT 0311-05; agricultural earth of “Sable argilo-limoneux”, pH = 7.50, OM=1.56% (organic Material), Nitrogen = 1.11 g/kg Carbon/Nitrogen = 8.2 Chalk = 0.2%) is sifted at 5mm in a fresh state and conserved by 4% until it is used. For this earth we determine the residual humidity (103ºC) and the equivalent humidity according to the method of Bouyoucos for a pF of 2.8.
The product
of the company SUDLAC, SERRA L’OMBRE, distributed by Redpath® (Ref:
AT 0352-02) (See the characteristics in table 1) is used rough and without
modifications of its water content. The input of it is 2,000mg organic carbon
of REDPATH COOLSHADE™ per kilo dried earth.
Every sample consists of 25g dried earth with an adjusted humidity corresponding
to the retainable capacity (pF 2.8) of the earth (biological optimum). A treatment
of the earth is only done in order to be able to measure the carbon in the
earth. Three repetitions per treatment are executed.
At every measurement, the glasses with NaOH are charged and the pots are aerated. The humidity is checked and adjusted one time per month during the incubation. Ten measurements are executed after respectively 0,1,3,7,14,21,28,49,77 and 99 days of incubation at 28ºC. The CO² captured by the soda is formed into sediment of barium carbonate using 10% solution of BaCl². The surplus of soda is determine by titration with 0.1M HC1 (volumetric dosage).
In order not to have a limitation of nitrogen during the degradation of the products, 25 mg of nitric azote per kilo of earth is added to the earth and mixed with it.
The detailed
results (tables and graphs) are given in the following pages and annex 1.
We present in this part a summarized table of the principal characteristics
of the product as well as the results.
DURACLEAN - Greenhouse film exterior cleaner
(Reference 523 on Pricelist)
Duraclean cleaner is a heavy-duty detergent sanitiser that will help lift dirt and degrease the surface, whilst leaving a residual barrier helping to prevent algae regrowth. Duraclean is biodegradable and contains mild organic solvents to assist in breaking down and removing dirt buildup.Supplied in 2 litre (3½ pints) units, Duraclean greenhouse film cleaner can be diluted to a ratio of 50:1 and can clean up to 600 sq/m (717 sq/yd) per 2 litre (3½ pints) container.
Note: Take care to follow safety instructions on label. Keep out of reach of children.

SUNCLEAR ANTIFOG - Greenhouse film treatment, anti-condensation spray
(Reference 526 on Pricelist)Sunclear is a non-toxic, sprayable coating that converts the normal hydrophobic (non wettable) surfaces of plastics and metals into a hydrophilic (wettable) condition. Many growers are aware that excessive condensation can cause poor light transmission, reduced humidity control, damp plants via drips and increased heating costs.
| WITH ANTI CONDENSATE SOLUTION |
WITHOUT ANTI CONDENSATE SOLUTION |
Most greenhouse films manufactured today contain an anti-fog agent, however this treatment generally does not last for the life of the film and will progressively "wash out" as the film ages. With Sunclear, growers can re-apply an anti-drip surface and regain the "non-drip" benefits.Sunclear is supplied in 1 litre (1¾ pints) units and has a typical dilution ratio of 50:1. One litre is generally sufficient to treat an area of up to 1000 sq/m (1190 sq/yd) in diluted form. Sunclear is usually applied by knapsack sprayer.
