Greenhouse operators typically want to maximise
available light to their plants to maintain high levels of crop productions
throughout the year.
Many growers can now additionally benefit by using
a new ‘Ultra-white’ reflective ground cover now available for their greenhouse.
Light reflective flooring is constructed from a
special polyethylene resin and is made up of three individual layers.
As the film is extruded all three layers become ‘bonded’ together, permanently
creating a very high strength and tear resistant film.
When the film is laid onto the greenhouse floor,
the ‘Ultra-white’ layer faces upwards so as to provide a high level of
reflection to the plant canopy, whilst the black film on the underside
assists in suppressing weed and algae growth. Other advantages to
growers using the film include the creation of a more sterile growing environment
and one that can be cleaned regularly whilst also sealing out soil-borne
diseases and assisting with humidity control within the structure with
the film acting as a membrane.
Additional to this, a new longer life U.V. formula
is used with improved white layer intensity. The use of higher quality
resins gives a greater degree of film extrusion accuracy and allows better
resistance to wear and tear abrasion when being walked on or from having
rolling trolleys and equipment working on it.
Redpath have recently expanded their range of Light
Reflective greenhouse flooring films and hydroponic films to now include
a range of four individual roll widths to provide efficient floor cover
in large areas and to substantially reduce wasteful off-cuts for growers.
They are 3m (9’10”) 4m (13’1”) 8m (26’2”) and 10m (32’9”).
