Horticulture New Zealand has appointed the
head of VegFed, Peter Silcock, as it's first CEO.
The new umbrella
group representing growers in the fruit, vegetable and berryfruit
sectors will be formally launched later this year. It will represent
all three industries on common key issues for horticultural producers.
Mr Silcock has
worked in the horticultural sector for over 20 years and was appointed
Chief Executive of the Vegetable and Potato Growers Federation in
1991. In 1997 he also because Chief Executive of the New Zealand
Fruitgrowers Federation.
Mr Silcock’s
appointment is a pleasing development, says Graham Robertson, independent
chair of the Foundation Board of Horticulture New Zealand.
“Peter
Silcock is a respected leader within the sectors which are represented
by Horticulture New Zealand and we are confident he will apply the
same high level of skill and commitment which has been a feature
of his career to date.”
“Peter
has a proven level of success in dealing with the myriad of official
bodies and other organisations that impact on the industry. The
board is confident that he will establish the important links that
the new organisation needs to become effective in adding value to
the businesses of horticultural growers.
