Redpath has developed a new greenhouse
structure.
The structure ‘Super Single SVR features their
cosecant ‘curved rafter’ truss concept that was developed by the company.
The company claims that this truss design is particularly
suitable in a greenhouse application due to its inherent ability to drain
condensation at a much faster rate and therefore reduce moisture related
crop disease problems and substantially increase light transmission levels
(especially during winter when condensation in the greenhouse environment
is typically at its highest).
Local growers also say, “Other benefits of this
specialised greenhouse truss design include an increased crop weight and
wind load rating, and it contains considerably less overhead structural
light impeding framing.”
Demand from growers in specific floriculture sectors
has resulted in this new structure being introduced and it is particularly
suited to the year-round productions of specialised export and local flower
crops including – carnations, roses, calla lilies, sandersonia, and in
fact any crop that demands very high light transmission levels throughout
the year or at certain stages of production.
The “Super Single SVR offers light transmission
levels comparable to a glass clad greenhouse yet retains the natural energy
saving efficiencies that long life EVA based polythene cladding can offer.”
Ventilation is not compromised, with options in
the design providing up to 50% of floor area opening. The ‘Duratough’
EVA based film cladding is a heavy-duty commercial grade product and incorporates
an all new resin polymer that has been engineered to provide excellent
light transmission and very long life (up to 7 years).
The design offers an extended sidewall and crop
wire height in larger areas of up to 4.5 metres (14’2”) and this provides
operators with an excellent volume of air ratio for an improved more natural
environment that offers the crop reduced internal air temperature fluctuations
and better heat control during summertime.
High quality Ridder “dutch” rack and pinions are
used in the vent drive system, which utilises the latest motor-gearbox
drives with built-in limit switches with back-ups. Efficient ‘cross-link’
multi-vent opening systems are also an option on this design. An
electronic controller monitors the greenhouse temperature, humidity, outside
wind speed and rainfall, adjusting the Super Single SVR roof ventilation
system to maintain the growers desired settings.
